Number 1: The Time Traveler’s Wife
The Time Traveler’s Wife is a 2009 science fiction drama film based on Audrey Niffenegger’s novel of the same name. The story follows Henry DeTamble Role played by Eric Bana, a man who happens to have the ability to time-travel but has no control over when or where he goes in time. While that’s complicated enough, things become even more complex for DeTamble once he starts building a romantic relationship with Clare Abshire Role played by Rachel McAdams.
Number 2: The Butterfly Effect
The Butterfly Effect is a 2004 science fiction thriller film starring Ashton Kutcher as 20-year-old Evan Treborn and Amy Smart as Kayleigh Miller, Treborn’s college sweetheart. In the film, Evan finds he can travel back in time to inhabit his former self and attempts to change the present by changing his past. But, as any good time-travel fan can tell you, changing the past means there will be unintended consequences in the future.
Number 3: Idiocracy
Joe Bowers Role played by Luke Wilson is a super-average dude in 2005 who agrees to take part in an experiment Role played alongside Maya Rudolph that puts him into hibernation until 2505. The thing is, when he wakes up, he discovers that humans have become so unintelligent that he’s now the smartest person in the whole wide world. It’s both hysterical and a cutting satire that draws some parallels to our current state of affairs.
Number 4: A Wrinkle in Time
Meg Murry and her little brother, Charles Wallace, have been without their scientist father, Mr Murry, for five years, ever since he discovered a new planet and used the concept known as a tesseract to travel there. Joined by Meg’s classmate Calvin O’Keefe and guided by the three mysterious astral travellers known as Mrs Whatsit, Mrs Who, and Mrs Which, the children brave a dangerous journey to a planet that possesses all of the evil in the universe.

Michael Newman role played by Adam Sandler seems to have it all but his wife, Donna role played by Kate Beckinsale, is increasingly frustrated by the amount of time he has to spend at work. Michael cannot find time to be at home until he meets an eccentric inventor role played by Christopher Walken who gives him a universal remote that controls time. At first, he happily skips the boring times until he realizes the remote is in control of his life and he learns to cherish all the precious moments with his family.
Number 6: About Time
When Tim Lake Role played by Domhnall Gleeson is 21, his father Role played by Bill Nighy tells him a secret: The men in their family can travel through time. Although he can’t change history, Tim resolves to improve his life by getting a girlfriend. He meets Mary Role played by Rachel McAdams, falls in love and finally wins her heart via time-travel and a little cunning. However, as his unusual life progresses, Tim finds that his special ability can’t shield him and those he loves from the problems of ordinary life.
Number 7: Looper
In a future society, time travel exists, but it’s only available to those with the means to pay for it on the black market. When the mob wants to eliminate someone, it sends the target into the past, where a hitman known as a looper lies in wait to finish the job. Joe played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt is one such hired gun, and he does his job well until the day his bosses decide to “close the loop” and send Joe’s future self role played by Bruce Willis back in time to be killed.
Number 8: Back to the Future Part III
In this final chapter, Marty McFly role played by Michael J. Fox obtains a 70-year-old message from the time-travelling Dr Emmett Brown role played by Christopher Lloyd, in which he informs Marty that he has retired to a small town in the Old West. Marty then finds out that the Doc was murdered shortly after sending the letter. In order to save his friend, Marty will have to travel back in time, disentangle a lovestruck Doc from a local schoolmarm, and repair the DeLorean — all while avoiding a posse of gunslingers.
Number 9: Deja Vu
The team of the top-secret program brings ATF agent Doug Carlin Role played by Denzel Washington into its midst to capture the terrorist Role played by Jim Caviezel responsible for a ferry bombing that left hundreds dead. Its amazing technology lets the team fold time four days backwards and see the madman’s movements as he plots to kill a woman who could give him away. Doug realizes that the technology could allow him to do what law-enforcement officers dream of going back in time to prevent the crime.
Number 10: Happy Death Day 2U
Collegian Tree Gelbman wakes up in horror to learn that she’s stuck in a parallel universe. Her boyfriend Carter is now with someone else, and her friends and fellow students seem to be completely different versions of themselves. When Tree discovers that Carter’s roommate has been altering time, she finds herself once again the target of a masked killer. When the psychopath starts to go after her inner circle, Tree soon realizes that she must die over and over again to save everyone.
