Bridget Moynahan is an actress, writer, mum, and model most popularly known for her role as Assistant District Attorney Erin Reagan in the CBS television police drama Blue Bloods.
Bridget Moynahan was born Kathryn Bridget Moynahan in Binghamton, New York on April 28, 1971, to Mary Bridget a former schoolteacher, and Edward Bradley Moynahan, a scientist and former administrator at the University of Massachusetts Amherst both of Irish American descent. She has two brothers, Andy and Sean, and has said that, during her childhood, she was a tomboy. At around seven years old, her family moved to Longmeadow, Massachusetts where she attended Longmeadow High School and was captain of the girls’ soccer, basketball, and lacrosse teams.
Upon her graduation from Longmeadow High School in 1989, She had to convince her parents to let her try out modeling and acting as they had planned for her to go to business school. She actively began pursuing a career in modeling having been signed by a modeling agency after accompanying a friend to an audition.
Having appeared in many fashion magazines, including on the covers of Vogue and Glamour magazine, department-store catalogs, and television commercials, she began taking acting classes at the Caymichael Patten Studio in New York.
Though Moynahan made her television debut in a guest appearance in the comedy series Sex and the City in 1999, where she later had a recurring role as Natasha, her feature film debut in the 2000 comedy-drama Coyote Ugly playing the role of Rachel, a bartender/dancer in a wild New York bar is considered Moynahan’s breakthrough. According to her, she had accepted the role because she “thought it was interesting that the whole movie revolved around five women, and her character Racheal was so strong and independent”. The New York Daily News wrote, “In theory, it’s a fascinating concept for a series and this was written by David Hinckley. In practice, however, Six Degrees doesn’t work at all to attract you.” The series was canceled in May 2007 after just one season.
In 2007, Moynahan starred in film roles such as the thriller Unknown, about a group of people who have been kidnapped and trying to work together to escape their captors. Gray Matters with Heather Graham and Tom Cavanagh.
She was cast as Helen Owen, wife of David Owen (played by veteran actor Tim Robbins) in the Henry Bean Noise comedy-drama. The film was shown in a special presentation at the 2007 Rome Film Festival and released in 2008.
