Number 2: Shakespeare In Love:
Tale about a fictional relationship between William Shakespeare and a young woman who poses as a man in order to star in one of the writer’s plays. Suffering from writer’s block, Shakespeare is in need of a new muse. He soon finds inspiration in the form of a beautiful female aristocrat, but her daring determination to act in his play puts their already forbidden relationship on even more dangerous ground.
Number3: A Star is Born:
Seasoned musician Jackson Maine discovers — and falls in love with — struggling artist Ally. She has just about given up on her dream to make it big as a singer until Jackson coaxes her into the spotlight. But even as Ally’s career takes off, the personal side of their relationship is breaking down, as Jackson fights an ongoing battle with his own internal demons.
Number 4: Call Me By Your Name
The movie that propelled Timotheé Chalamet into stardom and into all of our hearts. Call Me By Your Name is set in the most idyllic place for a summer romance, a small villa in northern Italy. The angst will have you at the edge of your seat the whole movie, but that ending. No spoilers, but you will definitely be crying along with one of the main characters while Sufjan Stevens croons in the background.
Number 5: Blue Valentine
Dean (Ryan Gosling) and Cindy (Michelle Williams) live a quiet life in a modest neighborhood. To the casual observer, everything appears normal, if a bit subdued. But a closer examination reveals a couple caught in a downward spiral. They appear to have the world at their feet at the outset of the relationship. However, his lack of ambition and her retreat into self-absorption cause potentially irreversible cracks in their marriage.
Number 6: Me Before You
Emilia Clarke absolutely dazzles in this movie, and we can’t help but fall in love with her. She works as a caretaker for a paralyzed man who doesn’t really have the will to keep on living, played by the beautiful Sam Claflin. We watch them fall head over heels for each other, only to be hit with one of the saddest endings to ever exist in Hollywood. We’re pretty sure we cried ourselves into oblivion.
Number 7: Before We Go
This little indie film didn’t make a huge splash in theaters, but it’s a memorable love story all the same. Chris Evans and Alice Eve are two strangers who end up going on an unexpected overnight adventure throughout New York City together, and although they have palpable chemistry (especially as a performing jazz duo), they’re just not meant to be together at the end. We can barely stand seeing them say goodbye.
Number 8: Titanic
Would any list of sad, romantic movies be complete without Titanic? We don’t think so. Chances are you’ve watched this a million times and already know how it ends, but you still can’t help but shed a tear when Rose (Kate Winslet) tells Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) she’ll never let go.

Young female-to-male transgender Brandon Teena (Hilary Swank) leaves his hometown under threat when his ex-girlfriend’s brother discovers that he’s biologically female. Remember Me seems like a basic love story starring Tyler (Robert Pattinson) has had a strained relationship with his father (Pierce Brosnan) since a family tragedy. Rebellious and troubled, he thinks no one can understand his pain, then he meets Ally (Emilie de Ravin). Her warmth and spirit soon begin to heal him, and they fall in love. But just when Tyler begins to rediscover happiness and meaning in his life, emerging secrets threaten their romance.
