Number 1: Falling In Love

In this cheesy yet delightful rom-com, Milian (who you might recognize from songs like “Dip It Low” or previous romantic comedies like Love Don’t Cost a Thing) plays Gabriela, a stressed-out businesswoman who gives it all up to move to a charming small town after she wins a “Win an Inn” contest. The catch? The inn is all the way in New Zealand. It’s there that she meets Jake (Demos), a contractor who just so happens to be available to help fix her inn and her heart. The plot is admittedly predictable, but there’s no denying there is something uniquely charming about Netflix’s original film.

Number 2: The Last Summer

This teen story will make you pine for your high school days. In The Last Summer, college-bound friends celebrate their final months together after high school, determining what their friendships—and love lives—will shape up to be in the future. It has all the rom-com hijinks you’d expect.

Number 3: Plus One

PEN15’s Erskine plays Alice, a 20-something-year-old wedding-goer who turns to her closest pal Ben (Quaid) for her plus-one to 10 summer nuptials. At first, they agree to platonically be each others’ wing-person, but by the middle of the film—you guessed it—they start to develop feelings for each other. It’s not the most original premise, but it works.

Number 4: The Sun Is Also a Star

Based on Nicola Yoon’s book of the same name, this touching story follows Natasha (Shahidi), a college-bound 20-something who ends up meeting Daniel (Melton) during a chance encounter in N.Y.C. city. While she has other priorities—like making sure her family doesn’t get deported to Jamaica—he ends up consuming quite a bit of her time.

Number 5: Under the Silver Lake

If you enjoy fictional characters that spend the bulk of the film cracking the code to a mystery, this one is for you. Under the Silver Lake follows Sam (Garfield), a 30-something-year-old man who abruptly meets Sarah (Keough) and ends up uncovering well-hidden secrets of Los Angeles after her disappearance.

Number 6: What Men Want

In this gender-swap remake, Henson takes on the role of Ali, a sports agent whose contributions are overlooked in favor of her male counterparts. But after Ali sips a cup of experimental tea, she develops the ability to hear the innermost thoughts of her male coworkers. Expect her to use her newfound gift on the fast-track up the sports ladder. The new comedy is adapted from the 2000s What Women Want featuring Mel Gibson.

Number 7: Isn’t It Romantic

Wilson stars as a cynical New York City architect named Natalie. Natalie hates everything about rom-com. But, ironically after suffering from a head injury, she wakes up as the leading lady in her very own personal romance story. True to form, there’s a love triangle with a handsome stranger (Hemsworth) and her best friend (DeVine). Of course, the film wouldn’t be complete without a choreographed flash mob scene.

Number 8: The Aftermath

The romance film is set in postwar Germany in 1946, with Knightley taking on the role of housewife Rachael Morgan. She and her husband, Lewis (Clarke), move into a new home with a widower (Skarsgård) and his daughter. And as the popular saying goes, the couple soon find out that three is definitely a crowd.

Number 9: Five Feet Apart

Say hello to 2019’s version of The Fault In Our Stars. Only this time, two ridiculously cute teenagers (Sprouse and Richardson) are suffering from cystic fibrosis rather than cancer. If you’re a sucker for young love thwarted by terminal illness, this one’s for you. Directed by Jane the Virgin actor Justin Baldoni, you’ll need to keep a box of tissues handy.

Number 10: The Perfect Date

Netflix found a star in Centineo with the success of 2018’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, and here he plays a high school senior named Brooks who sells his services as a stand-in boyfriend in order to make Yale tuition money. He creates an app that also brings him closer to dating his dream girl (Mendes), but at the same time, he’s growing closer to his new client, Celia. The latest film in the pay-to-date-me genre (Can’t Buy Me Love, Easy A) doesn’t exactly break the mold, but fans of teen rom-coms will find lots to enjoy.
